Women and girls of all ages who love to sing are invited to join us every Tuesday evening and blend your voices with ours as we sing a cappella music in four-part harmony. The ability to read music is not required. We teach correct singing techniques for all types of music and you will discover the joy of singing with a group of women. We sing many styles of music, from traditional barbershop to pops and almost everything in between. Ours is a high-quality chorus which consistently wins medals in regional competitions. In the past five years we have won 3 fifth-place medals, 1 fourth-place medal, and 1 third-place champion medal. Singing in a group is fun, energizing and a great stress reducer. Identification of Northwest Mushrooms – Tom Keller (3 evenings)
Discover how to identify the most common mushrooms in the Northwest; their similarities and differences, facts and fiction and which ones are safe for cooking. Slideshows and mushroom displays are used to aid you in learning proper identification techniques. An optional field trip after the last class will enhance your learning experience. A suggested textbook, The New Savory Wild Mushroom, by Margaret McKenny and Daniel E. Stuntz, can be purchased at most local bookstores. Instructor, Tom Keller, is an amateur mycologist, a member of the South Sound Mushroom Club and has led many field trips in Washington, California and British Columbia to find and identify mushrooms.

Basic Mountaineering - Tom Keller (6 evenings)
Join us for an introduction to the fun and adventure of mountaineering! Learn the essential skills to climb most peaks in the Cascades and Olympics. Information on land navigation, safety, weather conditions, equipment and first aid are also presented. An optional experience climb is offered following successful completion of the course. You are required to be in good physical condition and at least 16 years of age to participate in the climb. Additional costs include a textbook and equipment purchase/rental. The courses are designed to educate and to enhance your knowledge of the gay community and personal connections. Instructor, Dr. Patrick M Chapman is an anthropology professor at SPSCC who has been an invited speaker on homosexuality at many colleges and conferences in the Western US. His recent book, “Thou Shalt Not Love”, is recognized as one of the most important books examining the American societal debate on homosexuality.

Once considered the “ultimate predator” of the Northern Hemisphere, the wolf is now classified as endangered in much of its former range in the US. Information will be presented on the history of wolves in North America, wolf biology, and behavior. Conservation efforts and species survival plans are also discussed. The first session will take place in a classroom setting where expert guest speakers will enhance your learning experience. The second session will take place at Wolf Haven where you can get up close and observe wolves in a natural setting. For the second session, please wear layered clothing and sturdy walking shoes.
