Introduction to Drawing - CE 302

*11 x 14 tablet of Bristol board

*Kneadable eraser

*Plain number 2 pencil - no H, B, or anything fancy.

*Objects or photos of somethingyou might like to draw, besides the still lifepieces that I will bring in

Introduction to Watercolor - CE 258

*1small, 2 medium flat, and 1 large synthetic watercolor brush, or higher quality ifyou already own them

*Heavy weightArches watercolor paper, whatever size you like.Heavy weightis much easier to paint on.

*Large plastic rectangular palette, preferably one with a lid

*medium size water jar

*Small set of good quality watercolors in tubes. My favorite brand is Windsor Newton.

*Drawing board and masking tape.

*Objects or photos of something you might like to paint, especially flowers. I will also bring in somethings.

Oil Painting - CE 252

*An assortment of good quality brushes - 2 very small round, 2 medium flat, and 1 large flat. Synthetic is okay. Sable is even better, but spendy.

*Basic colors of waterbased oil paints - black, white, yellow (not cadmium yellow), red (not cadmium red), ultramarine blue, and any medium green. Michael's has a set for about $30 or $40.

*Water based oil painting medium

*A piece of masonite 8 x 10 or11 x 14

*Paper palettetablet

*Box to put the wet painting in afterwards

*Objects or photos of somethingyou might like to paint. I will also bring in somethings.

Art of Handmade Paper Workshop - Supply List, Instructor, Ellen Miffitt

Instructor will bring to class the following:

Deckle and molds

Blender and linter/abaca for pulp

Vats, felts, scissors

Iron & newspaper

Staple Gun – waterproof tape -   fiberglass screening  

Participant Materials:

Please bring an old iron and newspapers to class if you wish to speed up the process to dry your paper by ironing.

If you wish to make your own deckle and mold:

Bring eight canvass stretchers – four 6” and four 8” or a plastic embroidery hoop

Felts – two packages disposable dishcloths and/or felts [8”X10” pieces]

Suggestion – buy yardage of felt at Joann’s and cut into pieces

newspapers – plastic bag to carry paper home

Objects to embed– – just about anything –

leaves, feathers, ribbon, thread, dry petals

            pipe cleaners shapes, dried flowers, string,  yarn,  knotted thread

            plant fibers, sequins, seeds, beads, confetti, tea leaves

Bring objects to emboss – press object into paper -image in paper – they should be flat like a key

            I use natural products like curry, paprika, cloves, beets, onion skin dye to color the pulp.  You may wish to bring rubber gloves for using with the colored paper pulp as the curry does discolor your fingers.
